The Bacons, Brown Rice, and Bedtime

Posted on July 28th, 2007 by Kymberlie.

Two weeks ago we made a trip to Michigan to meet Elliot’s Bacon relatives. No one clued me in to the fact that we would be meeting 20 + family members! Three great aunts, one great uncle, their spouses, children and grandchildren all greeted with open arms at Dewey Lake. While Thomas and I played cards and ping pong, Elliot went on walks with his great aunts or played with his cousins. It was a great long weekend and we can’t wait to return next summer.

Eating cerealIf Elliot could talk he would probably say that the best part of July was the night that Mommy spontaneously decided to feed him nectarines. I had thought long and hard about waiting until he was six months old before introducing solids, as well as what his first food would be. The plan was always bananas. But something about the sweet, juicy, tender nectarine from the farmer’s market inspired me and I blended some up and fed it to him. To say that Elliot loved it would be an understatement. You can see his first solid meal on video here. Although he loved the flavor, Elliot’s tummy didn’t like the nectarines too much and he had major gas all night (I later learned that cooking them first would have helped…poor baby!). This week we decided to start over with brown rice baby cereal. Luckily, he eats mushy, bland rice cereal with as much zeal as he ate the nectarines. Really though, given his record, is anyone surprised that our kid likes to eat? We’ve also suddenly been getting a bit more sleep than usual. Elliot is waking less and staying in bed longer. Thomas’ post from yesterday gives more details on that. Needless to say we are quite pleased, but also holding our breath every night to see if the pattern continues.

Sucking on a glassEveryday Elliot seems to find more ways to fuel our fixation with him and make us laugh. Recently he’s been tormenting the cats by reaching for their tails. When he catches them he giggles. He also likes contorting his body to stick his toes in his mouth, and loves it when we say “poop!” or any similar word. All of his latest photos are in the July 2007 album. Our next (and last!) trip is to Maine for some more QT with Grammee Sammee and Grandpa Alan. Be on the lookout for photos from Grandpa Alan’s camp on Great Pond, Seeds of Peace, and Nana Wright’s “Casa Shalom”!

Love the pictures. He is so funny! I used to give EJ orange quarters to suck on- they love it. I’m so glad you are sleeping more.

Elliot was a great hit a Dewey Lake and we were all so happy to meet him. If he keeps coming back each summer, it wil be something he will always remember. It was a great week and Kim, we were also glad to meet you. The baby of course seems to always come first. Sounds as though you are enjoying him tremendously and more so as he sleeps more and you are less tired.

Elliot gets sweeter all the time. It is so good to be able to see him change and grow by long distance. Hope the all night sleeping becomes routine soon. I think I NEED to see him again soon. How about a trip here?? Love to all 3 of you. Great Aunt Brenda

Is Elliott living the life of Reilley (sp?) or what? Hey Elliott, I’d trade place with you any day.

It must be great being you. 🙂

Kymberlie & Thomas, I just love getting these updates on your son. Even though I’ve only seen pictures, one day in the very near future, I look forward to seeing Elliott in person.

    Take care.

    Myra 🙂
