new friends, new food, new teeth!

Posted on September 8th, 2007 by Kymberlie.

It’s hard to believe Elliot is already 7 months old. When he was born I remember meeting mamas with babies this age and just couldn’t imagine that my baby would ever be so alert, entertain himself, wiggle all over the place, and sit at the table to eat dinner. He seems so grown up. Click here to see a video of Elliot laughing like a little kid at Daddy’s carrot trick.

In August Elliot and I went to Maine for two weeks, and Thomas joined us for one of those weeks. He and I flew on an airplane (two actually) all by ourselves and spent an entire week without Daddy. It was really tiring, but we had a really good time. This was Elliot’s second trip to Maine, and thankfully the weather was mostly nice and we could play outside. This time around he got to meet Alli (Uncle Nick’s girlfriend) and her parents, Zainab (a D.C. friend), Kenne (a Seeds of Peace friend), Amanda (Kymberlie’s high school friend), Nana Wright, Nana’s daughter Shantia and husband Jonathan, the Lewins: Leslie, Nick and Sam, and tons of other people at Seeds of Peace where Kymberlie worked for eight summers. We also had an unplanned overnight in NYC on the way home and spent it with Thomas’ New Orleans friends Adam, Megan and their daughter EJ.

In the last month and a half Elliot has gotten to try lots of new foods. He now eats bananas, avocados, sweet potatoes, carrots, pears and peaches. He is very excited about all the new textures and flavors going into his mouth, though his parents are less than excited about the new textures and odors coming out the other end! Gross! We had to get a new trash can next to the diaper station to contain the odor!

This week Elliot started daycare and Kymberlie went to school and her internship. It’s pretty overwhelming to transition to this new way of life (having to get up on a schedule, pumping milk, packing lunch…generally being organized!) but we’re working on it. The most exciting part of Elliot’s 7th month so far is that his two front teeth popped up! They’re a little hard to see, but if you stick your finger (or something else…ahem) in there, there’s no question.

That’s the latest Quong-Charles Bacon update. Click here to see photos of all the adventures.

Elliot is really enjoying life more and more. Of course he has two great parents and that always helps. He has a lot of friends, too. Is Adam the one that I know from Austin? Anyway, Elliot, keep your parents in good shape and don’t let them get too much sleep or they will just get lazy. That means that they won’t be able to keep up with you. Lots of love to all of you, Mary O

We haven’t gotten to the stinky poops yet but there are two things that I have heard help. You may already have tried these but jsut in case…

    (1) Biodegradable flushable diaper liners that you can get at Ecowise on South Congress

    (2) A cloth saoked with Tea Tree Oil in the soiled diaper bin

    Hi Guys,
I loved all the beautiful pictures and would love to pick up Elliot and give him a big hug. He is the cutest baby. I also enjoyed hearing all about him. Keep up the good work. Love, Aunt Patti
